The C and D Canal which divides the north and south sides of Chesapeake City, Maryland is the busiest canal in The United States. People visiting Chesapeake City love to see the enormous ships that often go through this small town.
Many of the ships that go through are far taller than any of the buildings in town, and are fascinating to watch as they pass through Chesapeake City. I was just in town hall today, speaking to Valerie, and she told me about a cool web site that I didn’t previously know about.
The site is http://www.marinetraffic.com/ and it looks like it uses google maps, and overlays data of where all the ships in the canal and local waterways are. If you click on any one of the color coded diamonds, it brings up data about that ship or boat. As a photographer who would sometimes like to know when a ship is coming by to take pictures of it, this is a great tool!
