With some of the snow finally starting to melt, it looks like there is another storm on the way. One day out, and I am still seeing forecasts varying from an inch or two to over ten inches. The real scary part is the ice, if we do get some like the forecasts say.
The water in much of the Elk River is very shallow and slower moving, but then drops off sharply towards the deep channel. It creates an interesting effect when the temperature is low for this long. The hundred feet or so near the shore freezes, while the faster moving water in the channel doesn’t, and piles up sheets of ice on the frozen shallow parts. Fun to look at, but not as much fun as the warm water in the summer.
